Northern Smelters - Manufacturers of lead-free solder and tin anodes

Products

Northern Smelters are an Australian supplier and manufacturer of tin-based and lead-based alloys. Our specialties include the following:
Chrome-plating anodes
 Fusible allloys
Tin concentrates
Lead-free solder bars
  • High quality solder that surpasses specifications for lead-free electronics manufacturing.
  • Certificate of Conformance or Analysis Certificate for each batch is available.
  • Analysis for periodic monitoring of solder quality during operation is offered, with report by independent NATA approved laboratory.
  • Alloy known as SAC305 (96.5 % tin, 0.5 % copper, 3.0 % silver) is most commonly requested formula, but tin/copper solder and other grades are available.
  • Package size: 10kg boxes.
Tin/Lead solder bars
  • High purity tin/lead solder (63Sn37Pb).
  • Certificate of Conformance available if required, and analysis service for periodic testing of solder bath.
  • EPA approved collection of  solder dross (Regulated Waste) offered in Brisbane and NSW.
Tin Metal, including Tin Anodes
Tin available as:
Ingots – approx 3kg
Sticks – approx 500gm
Granules  - used as additive in foundries.
200gm round “buttons” for foundry additive of consistent weight.

Slab anodes for electroplating:
40” x 6” x 1” – approx 27.4 kg each
30” x 9” x ½” – approx 17.5 kg each
24” x 6” x 1” – approx 16.6 kg each
24” x 4” x ½” – approx 5.6 kg each
13.5” x 2.5” x 3/8” – approx 2.2 kg each
Any size up to 20” x 9” x ½” or 1” thick.

Oval cross-section anodes (tin or tin/lead): 18” and 24” lengths.

Pellets: “half-sphere”, 20mm diameter for use in electroplating baskets, also foundry use.

Balls: 16mm diameter for use in electroplating baskets.

Chome-plating Anodes: Made from a superior alloy that gives longer trouble-free service than regular anodes - lengths up to 3.5m

Bearing Metals (Babbitt metals)

A: Highly ductile, fatigue resistance, used to take heavy loads at high speeds and for massive bearings and large con-rod bearing not subjected to shock. Also used to set knife guides for sawmills.

A1: Special tin-based alloy for use in crushers. Used for heavy duty quarry and metallurgical crushers.

AR: Best quality whitemetal for heavy-duty, shock-loaded conditions.

400: Highly ductile and corrosion resistant underwater metal.

No.4: Lead-based lower cost alloy - often used in windmills.

Other grades made to customer specification.

Lead-free Pewter / Casting Alloys

Consistent high quality and the never-varying formulas of our alloys is the reason spin-casters favour our metal. Whether they make jewellery, badges, or souvenirs, and whichever alloy they use, once casters work out the optimum temperatures and other variables for their designs, they can rely on consistent results because every batch of alloy is strictly to the correct formula for each grade.

A range of lead-free pewters are available to suit different types of work and finishes. All melt at approximately 235 degrees C, though this varies slightly depending on formula. One grade was especially formulated to suit hand-casting, and is popular for craft work and hobby model-making, while others are best for centrifugal spin-casting.

Our best-selling casting alloy is “CA”, much favoured for a fine “grain” that gives superior results when electroplated. Other alloys are available at lower cost to suit low budget work.
